clematis montanas

    Can anyone tell me name of the montana with the reddy, plum colour leaves...Ive got one in the garden but lost the tag and i want another.

    Sounds like 'Rubens', which has bronze-toned foliage and pale pink flowers.

    It's easy to take a cutting from the one you have Girliecook.
    Fill a pot with damp compost.
    Look for a trailing bit on the clematis you have.
    At a little, knuckly leaf joint bit, push it into the compost and peg it down.
    It will soon root from there.
    Once rooted cut the pot free from the parent plant and there you have it - a new clematis the same as the parent.

    Just to say Alice's method really does work and that my Mum has had great success with rooting Clematis armandii in the same way. Since her local garden centre is selling large specimens at twenty-five pounds each, she's wondering whether she could grow enough to flog a few and supplement her pension:hehe:
