I've only grown Japonica and Fatshedera, Gaz, but I enjoyed your blog. Lovely tropical garden you have there, so well done to both of you.

Fatshedera is a great plant - cross between ivy and Fatsia japonica. If i remember correctly it was discovered by accident. We find our plant can get a little bit of damage with very heavy frosts, but it does grow back quite strongly.

I only have F Japonica, although I would like F Jap Var. I can't say I really keen on Spiders web although I have only seen a juvenile one at Abbotsbury Gardens.

I too have a Fatsia japonica living outdoors but not faring well due to the hot, dry summer (four months with no rain and obviously I was a negligent 'carer') ... but hey, it's still alive!

Nice to see you are still with us, Babe ... xx k-l

This Fatsia Japonica grew in my last garden in the west of Scotland. It was planted from a pot which had been bought as a house plant. The only problem I had with it was keeping it under control. Sometimes I had to prune it with an axe ! The plant to the right is a Camelia and to the left/behind is a Rhododendron. My records show the pic was taken in January (2002)
