Does anyone have a Magnolia sieboldii growing in their garden? I am thinking of getting one and wonder how floriferous they are in reality. Photos on the internet are either of single flowers or full trees with just a handful sparcely spaced. Maybe I have answered my own question!:)
    Thanks Nicand

    Hello Nicand
I bought a magnolia sieboldi , musy have been 6 years ago . Last year it went into the green bin ,it never really developed from being a stick with leaves - not one flower. Now maybe this was my bad luck from buying on the internet , others may have had success.
I did buy a magnolia susan, a few years ago in 2006 , and this has been stunning. Lovely purple flowers followed by nice foliage. It developed into a small tree within 5 years. It has been awarded the RHS AGM , which is a rating system that I have a lot of faith in for purchasing reliable plants.

    Harry,
Thank you very much for your reply, that is exactly what I wanted - (not a tree with no flowers, but someone with personal experience!). I will wait to see if I get any other replies. Last Autumn I did plant a Magnolia Wieseneri which is very similar, so maybe I should wait and see how that does.
I do like Magnolia Susan, but a lady called Susan ran over my cat so I bought Rustica rubra instead.
Many thanks for taking the time.
    Nicand

I visited The Dorothy Clive Garden a couple of weeks ago, and was shown around the gardens by one of their gardeners, and on route they showed us this tree (Magnolia Sieboldii) it was fantastic with about 60 to 70 flowers, which were perfumed, and it has started me off looking for one for myself.
If you need information I would suggest that you give the gardeners a ring
