Last year I bought a bird bath for about £50.
Over the cruel winter the surface coating has cracked and crumbled and now is just some kind of conglomerate of pebbles set in cement or something.
It doesn't look pretty and doesn't hold water - the water bubbles and leaks through the conglomerate. I'm very disappointed with it.

Can anyone suggest a way to repair this bird bath.

In truth the birds never liked it much and prefer to bathe in the tray of water I put out for watering plant pots

I had a nice one that winter crumbled around the top due to frost. This birds didnt use mine either, they preffered the stream.

I changed mine into a small alpine garden,

I was pretty sad about my bird bath, it was beautiful for many years, I am glad I found a way to ressurect it!

Sounds a bit of a mess Alice, only thing I can think of is to dry it out thoroughly and coat the whole thing with a couple of coats of epoxy.

Hi Alice .i have had a few garden features cracked with the severe low winter temps.
i have repaired most of them with a product you inject with a Sealant gun then spread with a
1 inch scraper to even off the surface. i was given this product from a neighbour who is in the building trade. i will contact you tomorrow with the name of the product. it is great it hardens very quickly. i had never heard of it before. as i say i will contact you tomorrow:thumb:

Thank you Music, that could be a solution.
Or maybe the Epoxy, Pete. Thanks for your help.

Hi George, I love the way you have planted yours. If I don't think I can effect a good repair I'll plant it up like that. I think it would look good and the birds can carry on bathing in the watering tray which they seem to prefer anyway. Thank you for your help.

We've a terraced fountain Alice and a couple of winters ago one of the terraces cracked due to ice. I used expoxy resin and a thin layer of glass fibre mat like the stuff in Pete's link to make a repair. Worked a treat and it's more or less invisible too.

That is so sharp what you did Georgebean.

I like birdbaths, the idea of them etc. Had one for couple of years. But its just more work than pleasure for me, have to clean it, change the water (bugs) So one day it broke. Not getting it again.
