    Hi all

Looks like I have the bug only kept a couple of varieties over the years , but I have looked at the catalogue of JB and can now see why.

I will be growing in the boder but want to grow in pots as well for the decking area and patio and move about when in flower etc

I was thinking about the same mix I use for my agapanthus:

John innes no 3 xtra grit and vermicuite and a good multi compost so its not too heavy

2 John innes 1 of the multi (what do you think) ?

Still getting used to the terms with Day Lily spiders UFO etc

Some that I have ordered are :

    Elderberry Candy

    Ageless beauty

    Awesome Candy

    Bam

    Sargeant Major

Cant wait but I like to preapere in advance

    So all info appreciated

    Thank

    Spruce

last year i bought a daylily because of the name ............STELLA -DE-OR

the name is very special to me as my sister stella passed away last march, and i saw the plant in the garden centre and just had to buy it, i am hoping that it will bloom again this year .

i do tend to have a thing about getting plants with peoples names .

my husbands name is John , and i got myself a clamatis that was named JOHN TREASURE

    because he is my treasure.

if my daylily comes good this year i think i will look for some other colours do they have a bright red one ?

Hi Spruce, lovely choices see you like eyes and edges:), don't have any of yours, love Elderberry Candy, hadn't heard of Sergeant Major, just googled it its a beauty huge flowers, look forward to seeing your pictures of it when it flowers, yes some do seem to bulk up quickly while others are really slow, I bought one 'Parade of Peacocks' amazing one never known a daylily increase so quickly went from one fan to six in less than a year, one to look out for. I buy quite a lot of my plants from ebay have a couple of favourite sellers, one to look out for is petalpower67plants none on at the moment usually starts selling end of March time I'll let you know when she puts any on, always good flowering size plants she has a website too www.daylilies.org.uk so you can drool over some of her beauties also Snapdragonplants the owner Adrian has also just set up a website not many on it at the moment but sure he'll be adding to it soon, Free Wheelin was one of his www.sddaylilies.co.uk also www.polliesdaylilies.co.uk had some great plants from her too, lovely lady very helpful, holds the national collection of spider and ufo's, has over 1500 daylilies, heaven, lol, also just discovered another seller who I had a couple of lovely plants from last autumn and have just ordered 4 more, some are a little more expensive but they are ones rarely seen anywhere else and she imports direct from the USA www.theflowerbower.co.uk have fun, sorry can't resist adding a couple more piccies, these were from petalpower, first ones 'Starmans Quest'(ufo) and second one 'Jellyfish Jealousy'(ufo cascade)[hr]
I will get the hang of this lol here's Jellyfish Jealousy

    Hi Simbad

That Jellyfish no wonder they added the jelousy part to the name £££ now that cost but another must have.

Is the cost because they are hard to get hold off and people are prepared to pay or just take ages to grow.

Its a beauty isn't it Spruce I paid £17 for mine, yes the more expensive ones are either new to the uk or rarer varieties, don't often see this one for sale so I wasn't going to be outbid wanted it for ages, collectors will pay the high prices, some newer varieties were selling for £80 last year on ebay, they cost so much to import from the US with the physosanitary costs the seller has to recover their costs.

Its lovely to hear about people that are really into their speciality plants.

Simbad - welcome to the forum. 138 varieties is truly awesome. Some time ago I was on an American Hemerocallis speciality web site and read about some (new?) varieties that were very, very long flowering. As long as 8 or even 10 months, if my memory serves me right. Are you aware of these? And is this as much a feature of their climate as a feature of the variety itself?

Hi Louise yes I've only just joined too, haven't seen you on GOY lately, like to know I've converted a few people, lol.
    Good idea Spruce:dbgrtmb:
Thanks for the welcome Peter yes in the USA they can flower for months because of their climate, there are quite a few varieties that rebloom here too,but usually there are early, mid or late flowerers, the main flowering season is mid June to end of August, have one particular one that was still flowering in October last year, Yabba Dabba Doo,just kept sending up flower scapes, lovely one, oops the collection just went up to 139, think I need help wonder if there's a daylily addict group:heehee:

Picture of Yabba Dabba Doo attached, huge flowers.
