 No I am pretty certain they don't May.. They have never touched mine & I have plenty of them as well a lilliums but the adults and larvae defoliate lilies (Lilium and Cardiocrinum) and fritillaries (Fritillaria)

Have a look here at the RHS site below..

I'm having a long standing battle with Lily Beetle and am trying to find an quick acting organic insecticide to deal with them. The larvae do the most damage reducing Lily leaves into tatters while the Lily beetle itself eats the leaves but isn't so savage in destroying the foilage. The Lily Beetle likes to sit on a leaf in the sun which is when it's most vulnerable to being sprayed with a contact insecticide or being picked off. They won't eat Day lilies although they may use them to sit out in the sun [I've seen them do that!] and they only lay their eggs on plants of the Fritillary family, of which the Lily is one.

the reason i ask is because even now as the shoots are just beginning to show through the earth, some thing seems to be eating the green shoots of my day lilies and my other lilies , and i thought it might be the same thing eating both of them . but maybe it is something else

Hi May, yes it is too early for the dreaded Lily Beetle. It hibernates in the ground during the winter and if the weather is warm enough might appear in April. So I agree with Spruce it more than likely to be slugs or snails. My Lilies are in 18" low profile pots to stop them blowing over and covered in grit. They are showing through now and so far there's been no damage - which might be down to the grit.
