Musa Super Dwarf Cavendish Plug Plants?

    Hello,

    Could anyone tell me where I can purchase Musa Cavendish Super Dwarf Banana plug plants please?

    Either online or in Lancashire?

    I'm only looking for a couple of them and would prefer them quite small as they are for my two little children.

    Hi, Tinkerbelle, I thought I'd posted this earlier on but it hasn't appeared so I'll repeat it! I've got two Dwarf Cavendish Musa both with young off-shoots attached. I plan on splitting them off in Spring and potting them on. If you can wait that long I will send you a rooted young Musa if you want. If you can't wait I'm sure there's mail order firms who will help although they'll probably be slightly bigger than plugs.

    Hi Tinkerbelle,

    Just a 'heads up'. I saw Musa Cavendish Dwarf in my local LIDL (in Rossendale, Lancs) on Friday 5th August, before I saw this post today - so check your local store.

    You may be in luck, as the plants were small but well-formed with about six to eight leaves and, at two for four pounds, seemed good value.

    I`ve got three plants , an soon as I should get some puppys available ......got them from dobbies for a miserable £2 each including porcellain pot .

      ARMANDII could you give me some tips about overwintering them ......1 is potted and inside , the other 2 are planted in my green house (don`t know if i will heat), will they survive a frost free winter ?

      Hi Sal, again there are others on the Forum who are much more knowledgeable than me on this subject. But I have over wintered mine by withdrawing them to the House. The reason I did that is that I didn't trust the unheated Greenhouse to keep a above freezing temperature during a cold clear Winter night. I kept the Banana in leaf and kept the compost in the pot just slightly damp, no more. When the frost had gone in the Spring I put it into the Greenhouse for a while for it to harden off. As I say there are more knowledgeable members out there in the Forum who will, I'm sure, give further advice.

      Not grown cavendish myself but have heard, and believe it wont survive much below 10C for short periods and really needs 15C long term at least.

        Thank you Pete and Armandii , I really can`t bring anymore plants inside , they look really nice but really can`t keep my green house at 10c , It will cost me a fortune , I`m planning to get an electric heather a keep my greehouse just over 2c , would love to get the plants dormant untill March ....finger cross

          Sal, it's not often that I disagree with Pete, but I think you'll find Musa Dwarf Cavendish will survive in the low 40f easily so long as it's not in a draft or too wet.:D

          Thank you Armandii , my bananas are planted in my green house , I builded my self in wood and plexy , and it`s completly sealed and root insulated , the humidity goes really high in summer , that why my plants are now giants , managed to germinate anything ......I want to try to get the humidity down and reduce the watering to once a monthy .....

          Sal, have you got ventilators in the Greenhouse? If so you could open them on reasonable days but just don't forget to shut them at night.:D

          Must say I am following this thread with interest as I have a Musa Cavandish which just grows like the clappers ... :heehee:

          I am surprised however that you Armandii (a Moderator) are 'speaking' to someone who posted in February and has not even visited the forum since early March ... :scratch:
