Oh this was difficult because they are all so beautiful, but if I have to choose one then it would be Amy Adams in the midnight blue dress, stunning!!!!!!!!!!

I can't even remember them! Was half asleep at the time!
I remember some silly starlet was wearing a strapless dress - in that freezing cold!
Wanted her head examined!

Sorry I didn't see them.
I'm not really a dress sort of girl.
Jeans and t-shirts for me.

I often wondered about the poor things parading in the freezing cold. I could never do it because I would get a backache for ten days!

Really couldn't care what ridiculously overpriced dress celebrities are wearing for the ridiculously over-hyped oscars, but each to their own :)

I have to agree that the red dress worn by Josie Lawrence looked great, as did the lovely gowns worn by Penelope Cruz and Mila Dunis, although I wouldn't wear anything like that myself as you need good frontage (if you know what I mean :heehee:). No, I would probably wear Gwyneth Paltrow's gown which was pretty understated but glam.

Sandra Bullock's gown was lovely, but she could have made a bit more effort with her hairdo. Didn't Helen Mirren look gorgeous, but they shouldn't have shown that closeup of her poor hands - what a giveaway!

I'd love to go somewhere where I could wear posh frocks like that, but the local restaurant is as far as I get these days. In any case, nobody seems to dress up like they used to any more. Sad - all those gorgeous clothes in the shops and folks turn up everywhere in jeans & teeshirts!!!

As your post suggests, Tiarella, the same dress on a person that does not suit the dress can be a complete failure. Even if one only wears jeans and top, some cut/shapes/colours can bring out more the good sides of a person look.

I have only ever worn a dress like that once in my life.
The day I got married.
It made me feel uncomfortable and not one for being centre of attention I felt overwhelmed with the whole thing.
I don't think wearing jeans and tops make me less of a person.
In fact some can cost as much and look as good as a posh frock.
It's just personal choice.
Being comfortable and being who you are.
As for the price of those dresses , don't they have them given to them by the designers to promote themselves.
Just advertising.

Well, I quite like a bit of showbiz bling myself - and even if you think you'll never wear anything even remotely similar to the Oscar ladies, you can still admire the workmanship which goes into a great designer frock. I come from a rag trade family myself, so I always think of all those souls beavering away in the workrooms hand sewing every last detail. I didn't like Jennifer Laurence's dress much. It was OK but, as one journalist commented, the bodice looked a bit like Pamela Anderson's swimming cossie in Baywatch. Helen Mirren's dress was great, as was Gwyneth Paltrow's. Much better than that ill-fitting pink thing she wore when she won an Oscar for Shakespeare are in Love. If you're going to spend hours blubbing on stage, at least wear a good frock.

I am quite into sewing myself (although not near professionally) and I enjoy looking at nice dresses.

If Pamela Anderson would wear that dress since her “top” is much bigger (aside from implanted) it would just be squeezed, flat and pull out from every possible corner which would not give quite the same end result. She would be much better off covering it than exposing it. (I would be curious to see the comment of the journalist)
