Hi - I have recently moved into a house with a north facing gadren, so the war on moss begins and will not doubt continue.

Are there any recomendations for scarifiers - petrol or electric. My lawn is roughly 100ft by 30ft, heavy clay and on a slight slope. I'd like something which have different heights, so I can do a deep scarify in Autumn, a lower level in Spring and a light rake in between.

If there are options with an aereator attachments then even better.

    Thanks, Nick

    Hi,
we've got an old black and decker that's very efficient.
Just used it to fetch up all the mossy from the shaded side, now got lots of bare earth to reseed.

Never used any others to compare against. Just read you should never scarify in spring. Oops!

My vote would be for the Stihl MM 55 Combi System. Comes with dethatcher and aerator tools.

Been using mine for five years now. Never managed to go Autumn and Spring but it does save a ton of back breaking work which would be impossible by hand.

I give the grass a good going over with the dethatcher. Usually pulls a pile out the size of a Mini. Then I mow it up and then go next with the aerator - digging small trenches into the soil.

You need a good full day for it but it does get good results.
