Saw my first BIG bumble bee of 2011 today, walking around on my veg plot and it nearly didn't live very long as one of the kittens picked it up in her mouth and ran off with it when I tried to stop her. I chased her around the garden yelling only to find she had already dropped it. Pleased to say it was fine and flew off :)

I saw mine on Sunday just gone as I was clearing out the garage and trying to tidy the garden up a bit it nearly flew at my head and had to duck quick, my cat also chases them I'm forever running after her trying to stop her getting stung and hurting the bee.

No bees yet in South West Scotland but the slugs and snails are putting in an appearance. A brief, squishy appearance... *splat*

The bumble bees have been around for ages here, but I saw the first honey bee last week - it settled on the framework of my poly tunnel as I was finishing it off.

Brimstones were everywhere about the village yesterday.
