Hi I bought some mail order dwarf due fruit trees (set of 3 apple, pear & plum) I’m sure you’ve all prob seen them in the magazines. Well they were delivered after Christmas and I potted them in containers on my patio and they are starting to come to life but I’ve found it difficult to find any care information on them.
I know with new trees your should remove all fruit in the first year so the tree can establish itself but does anyone know if that’s the case with these as it didn’t say how old they were

    Thanks

    Becks

    Hi Becks

Sorry I can't honestly answer this as I'm not experienced enough, what I can say, I saw these being sold on tv and I'm sure they said you would get fruit the first year. It was this that caught my interest, however I can't say that's a fact. I have a vine and this is it's third year and I will get my first proper harvest from it, as like you said, the first and second year fruit was not the best.

Hope you can get better help.

    Hi
Don't know about care but will be interested as I am thinking of buying a duo apple tree - Golden Delicious/Jonagold.

It says this can be container grown but I want to plant out in the garden.
I cannot find any information as to what size it could actually grow.

    Anbody know please?

Well I got a set of 3 from a magazine Apple, Pear & Plum for about £30 which I thought was a bargain but similarly couldn’t find any info all I did find was roughly 18” pots or ground planting 2 or 3 feet apart, that’s it!
So I put them in pots to see what happened and the apple & pear trees have started to come to life with buds but nothing has happened with the plum tree. Also they were only small about 1 meter with the tops cut off so not sure if they will grow any bigger? Still not sure whether to not let them fruit by removing any that form so the plants can get established or to leave them and see what happens

    Hi Becks

Did you cut the tops off your trees or were they 'pruned' when you received them?

What exactly are you talking about? Are we discussing family fruit trees, ie 2 or more varieties grafted on one rootstock? If they are only about a metre high then they are whips and should not be allowed to fruit for at least 3 years. Jjordie, save your money, if you buy a family tree of Golden Delicious / Jonagold, you will be losing out. If you get fruit it will only be from the G D graft, Jonagold needs 2 differant pollination partners so will not set fruit.

    Hi there
I am talking about a small duo fruit tree as described here from mail order specialist -
"Duo fruit trees have two varieties, which pollinate each other, grafted onto one stem to create a space-saving tree. Now you can grow a selection of tasty apples in even the smallest garden. Root wrapped plants supplied. Height: 2m (78"). Duo Apple: Jona Gold and Golden Delicious on one sturdy stem - Harvest apples from October onwards."

Sounds like it could be suitable for the space I have in my garden but would like more information before I buy. I don't want a minature tree but 2 metres high when grown would be great.
Do you think they are giving incorrect information then Dai?

What happened with your duo trees?

Did you find any more info on them?

    Are they OK?

    Hi

They are fine, they didn't fruit but did grow branches off the main stem so they are prob 1.5+ meters high now and look healthy so fingers crossed for this year. I also purchased a dwarf cherry tree this Christmas to add to the collection so will see how that goes.
