Well since Cameron and Obama came into power, we haven't had any new wars for them to make their names. Now it seems we have.

The UN approved a 'no fly zone', meaning that Libyan military aircraft could be attacked by allied forces if they are seen to be flying.

Now it seems we're pummelling the living daylights out Libyan targets whether they fly aircraft or not.

In effect, we've gone and started a war. We've interfered in a civil war, and decided which side must win. I thought we were supposed to be skint.

Was kind of my thoughts also clueless.

I might be wrong but this time I got the impression that Cameron was the one stoking the fire, Obama seemed to be wanting to keep out of it until the UN got involved.

So we are sending what left of our Navy and Air force to have a go in Libya, I hope no body decides to attack us while they are away.
It could be a job for Dads Army if they do.

Im so glad someone has said exactly what I was thinking... Were are supposed to be skint... thats what the condemoservativeberals want us to think... turns out all that cash they have saved was for a bit of fun and games with tanks and guns... would have been cheaper to go out and buy this -

While I don't doubt that oil is not far from the thoughts of Cameron's advisors, I don't see how we can take advantage of it. The UN and the Arab League haven't allowed us to actually invade.

At risk of sounding unsympathetic, I also don't get why we care at all (I mean 'we' as a nation, not us individuals). It was only a few months ago there was anger on both sides of the pond at scenes of celebrations in Libya when we let one of their murderers go home (the Lockerbie bomber). Now it seems to me, that a bunch of ordinary people have taken up arms against their own government, and started taking over the place by force. Then when we sent some intelligence folks in to see what was going on, and they were captured while things were still going the rebel's way, they mocked us. When our aircraft went in to rescue our civilian workers, those aircraft were fired upon by rebel forces. Then when government forces started to gain the upperhand, suddenly the rebels are begging for help in the fight that they started in their own country.

It also seems to me that our reaction (UK, France, US etc) isn't about making it a fair fight between pro Gadafi and rebel forces. Stopping fighter jets from flying would have done that. Our reaction is basically to deny pro Gadafi forces from defending themselves while the rebels take over. Its a bit like two people having a 'fair fight' while one person has his arms held behind his back.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pro Gadafi, nor pro rebel. I just think its none of our business, and we had no moral duty to intervene. One could argue that we are stopping pro Gadafi forces from killing innocent civilians, but in doing so we are just enabling rebel forces to kill civilians, so either way civilians get killed, and you can guaruntee that which ever side loses, they will point the finger at us for slaughtering this civilians, and lots more people will hate us. All for something that someone else started in their own country that was never anything to do with us.

Always money for a war the arms industry is about the only profitable manufacturing industry we have left.
Its no use holding onto old armaments they get past their sell by date so we need some one to use them up on.
Will we be operating a no fly zone over Israel to stop them committing genocide in Gaza.

We can't have a fight with Isreal. They are too close an ally to the US.

You can bet we wont and we wont be asking for no fly zones over Bahrain or Saudi either..........why the devil can't we keep our nose out and investigate new technology to avoid the need for oil and nuclear fision if it comes to that.........but nobody listens to the public.

As Pete says. why aren`t we wiping out Mugabe. He is doing the same as Gaddafi. Unless, of course, the yanks are after the Lockerbie bomber. As if.lol
