Thanks again. I logged out and then back in and lo and behold it appeared!!

 

It's them darned cookies again! A log out or a reboot of the computer will often fix these critters! :WINK1:

Probably left over from previous incarnations of the forum! But amusing!

You need to either go into your UserCP > Edit Options > Thread Display Options > Thread Display Mode and set the drop down menu at Newest First.

Or you could go to the bottom of the Forum page and in Display Options, set the menu there to Last Post Time and Descending.

Can I change the order of posts?
You have a choice over how you view threads. When you're in a thread, look at the top bar. On the right hand side you'll see 'Display Mode'. Click on this and it lets you change how posts are ordered.
You have three choices:
Linear Mode - posts are displayed chronologically, usually from oldest to newest. Posts are shown in a flat mode so that many posts can be viewed simultaneously. It is possible to change the ordering by changing your preferences in the User CP
Threaded Mode - a tree is shown along with every post. This shows you the relationship each post has to the others. It's easy to see who responded to whom. Only one post is shown at a time. By clicking on a single post in the post tree, the page will show that post and all posts made in response to it.
Hybrid Mode - This is a mixture of the linear and threaded modes. The post tree is displayed as in the threaded mode, but many posts are shown at the same time as in the linear modes.

 

I tried that, but it only changes the order of posts within a thread, not threads within a board.



I was going to say all the other boards display newest threads first, but I've been through them all and found Retailer Feedback and Gardeners Corner Question Time also display oldest first. So that appears to scotch my theory that it could have been those two '1970' empty posts causing a problem with display order in the Member Requests board.

Is it just me getting this with those 3 boards?

Thanks Daisees and WOO, I couldn't work out what you meant at first, because for some reason that display options was not appearing on any page within any board.

But I found that cutting down the number of threads displayed in my User CP made that options box appear. This was not previously displaying on either the first or last (or indeed any) page on any board.

That's when I noticed the order was set differently for those three boards to all the others, enabling me to change it. Then I changed the number of threads displayed back to Forum Default in User CP and everything is now OK (except that box giving the option of changing order has disappeared again, but I don't need it now).

Phew, that one was driving me crazy.
