I have had a eucalyptus tree in my garden for about 15 years. As they grow so quickly, we have always given it a 'haircut' every year to keep it in check .... last Autumn our son came over and did it for us, but I think he went too far and now it shows no sign of any re-growth - any hope for this ? Is there anything I can do as I will be quite upset if it has decided to leave us after all this time ....

If it's gunnii you can copice it anyway so unlikely to be death by pruning lol :D more likely pruned at the wrong time of year (autumn) to recover before a very cold winter. They'll only be good down to -14 for short periods, and this prolonged cold winter has tested many species we have come to take for granted as hard as nails :(

Yes, I agree, many Eucalyptus are not properly hardy in the UK, so it may have succumbed - or it may recover sometime later during this year.

I will leave it in then and see what happens - in all these years it has never lost leaves throughout the winter but have no idea what kind of eucalypt it is ... as for cold winter - when my mum died 14 years ago, she had a very small rose bush in her garden - the miniature kind I mean, sometimes kept indoors.... I dug up her little bush and put it into my garden .... it never stopped growing , even though my brother thought it might for a year because of being uprooted .... and the first flowers to open were on her birthday !! since then it has never been without a leaf or two right though the winters - it is planted next to my raspberry bush - my mum loved raspberries !

Thought i'd lost my fig after the jan 2010 snow. Just left it in the pot against a south facing wall and in August it grew new leaves.

The tree is at least 10 foot tall even with it's 'haircut'
