    Hello all,

Just a quick 'what is this' thread - I have a seed tray left over from last year filled with things I've long since forgotten about, any clues as to what they are? Also, some plant I planted next to my Primroses and some weird thing I never planted which Bees love.

    Cheers!

The first looks like foxgloves, the second hollyhocks and the third nettles (and yes, the bees love them).

    1) would agree with SussexG - foxgloves
    2) certainly very Hollyhock type leaf. But I am not entirely sure. With my Hollyhock leaves the stem appears to enter closed to the centre of the leaf, with big lobes either side like this http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2405901340026351888vhWVGe
    3) yes nettles

But - there is an acid test for each.
    1) chew the leaves - if you die of a heart attack it was Foxgloves (Digitalis)
    2) It it got rust - tiny red spots on the leaves - its Hollyhock
    3) stick your hand in - if you yelp - its nettles :D

Number 2 could also be foxgloves.

Oh bother I'm drowning in Foxgloves as it is! Weed or not that White Deadnettle looks quite nice where it is, under a Conifer where nothing other than well fed Forget-me-nots grow. Cheers all!

I would be inclined to say the second one is foxglove too, possibly verbascum though. I like deadnettles too, and things are only a weed if you don't want them.
