Do you buy any gardening mags?
I've picked up Gardener's World a few times, and they've got an offer on at the moment - a year's subscription for £20. Much cheaper than buying it every month so I signed up.

Are there any other good magazines out there that I should have a look at?

    Hi!

Garden news has half price subscription, with free postage.

Like everything else it's personal choice to what suits each of us!

But I have picked up lots of tips and hints from various cardening mags etc!

    Cheers!

Yeah, i've subscribed to Gardeners World @ £20, probably wouldn't have at normal price, but it has actually been very good. :)

I subscribe to a weekly magazine "Amateur Gardening" at two thirds of the annual cost of buying from a shop.
They also give free seeds every week and I think the number of packets this year is 38, plus the fact it covers every subject in gardening and gives loads of practical tips. This week it gave two free packets of seeds, I get the cost of the magazine back in the price of all the free seeds it would have cost me to get them.

Kitchen Garden is my favourite. I can't knock Gardener's World and Grow your Own either. Cheers for the tip on the subscription.

Does Grow Your Own still come with free seeds? I remember getting a copy back in 2004 and it had a packet of butter-nut squash with it.

I used to have Ameature Gardening for years and then started buying Gardeners World until the prices started to go up and up so changed to some of the others like Kitchen Garden, and Grow Your Own but their prices started to go up as well and I thought to myself I am not paying over three squid to read the same old stuff year in and year out when i have shelves full of books which tell me exactly the same thing so I have hit them all on the head and only buy Gradners World at Christmas to get the free Calender or some of the others when they are giving away ten packets of free seeds etc:D

I would much rather save the magazine cash and spend it on some plants for the garden which will last a long time and it saves on the poor backs of the recycling people when they come to empty the bins:D

Yup, the magazines are great for beginners, or if you want to get the 2 for 1 garden entry vouchers in the summer or multiple plant offers etc. After a while, you realize that the same stuff is repeated year on year, so I do the same as Kandy and consult my "proper" gardening books.

Becks,I can't reccomend the Expert books by Dr DG Hessayon as they are what we started with 31 years ago and they are so easy and simple to read and understand by newbie gardeners or anyone growing their own fruit and vegetables as the different books cover most subjects and they even do pocket sized ones if you don't want to carry round the larger versions.:DI seem to remember reading about his latest one which is going to be all about preserving any fruit and veggies we might grow but havn't seen the book in the shops yet so it might still be at the printers :D

We also joined the library in our village but at lot of the books were quiet old and they didn't get any new ones in and you couldn't appreciate the flower colours as they were all in black and white :)

Tiarella, yes the mags would be good for the various offers but some times there seemed to be more adverts than the gardening bits and because all the mags were a month in front I had to remember not to plant out my beans too early per the mag in case they got nobbled by late frosts :D

Can't argue with any of the above. Most of the mags I read though are full of opinion pieces and articles on gardens you can visit and so on and so forth. I really enjoy reading them, must be the pretty pictures.
