Peach split kernel

Last year my peach fruited for the 1st time. I had nurtured it lovingly and protected against frost. However by the time I plucked up courage to remove fruit the kernel had already split open and been attacked by earwigs. Any suggestions to prevent the same thing happening this year

 

Was every kernel like this and was the fruit over-ripe by the time you picked it?

Thanks Kedi. A neighbour who is a gardener at local estates told me he had had the same problem. Possibly due to the early hot spell that encouraged ripening before the kernel had set. I was just wondering if anyone else had had the same problem.
