Hi I'm looking for ideas on native species I could consider for an informal hedge max 4ft high, around my front garden in SW Ont. I want to avoid the usual cypress, junipers etc. any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forum Nick.
Sorry I don't know anything about gardening in Ontario - I'm in Scotland.
You could have a look round your area and see if other people are growing anything you like the look of.
Or maybe Penny will come on with some suggestions.

Hi Nick......we used to have an elm hedge around the front yard, it can grow really high, but we only needed to trim it maybe once a month.

Other then that, it was low maitnence.

There are a few types of junipers that would be nice, but if you want to stay away from those, i would pop into a garden center and ask what they would suggest.

    Good luck.
