I too like birdsong Victoria - as long as it's not TOO loud. After three wonderful peaceful awakenings, I can't believe what I've discovered on getting back from a long day working outside.

HE'S BACK!!! Sitting in the cherry tree in the front garden, trilling his heart out. And to think I thought I was going to have a lie-in tomorrow. Grrrrr!

I've had a grotty day as well. I'm supposed to be a gardener but the guy I work for has had me and my mate laying concrete blocks all day in 25 degree heat. Then I had to stop off at another client to spray the gravel round the (manor) house, as I'm not going in tomorrow, my usual day.

Sorry for the moan, but I'm finding life a struggle at the moment.

Sorry Chris that things are a bit asunder and I hope things get better for you real soon. We've only been 18c today with sunshine, thunderstorms, hailstones, sunshine, rain .... currently it's calm and I think relatively quiet out there ....

At least I don't have to get up at a 'certain time' any more now being a Lady of Leisure but it does disturb my sleep pattern, if I indeed have one ...

I have just got out of the bath after a nice long soak and I could hear them all twittering away outside the bathroom window ... as the cottage is surrounded by orchards (not mine) there is no reprieve. It's an all-day long singsong .. except for about 2-5am when strangely I am awake probably because I can't hear anything ... :what:

Other than that, hope you are settling into your new home.

The thrush is less obvious now - thank goodness -although I did have to shoo him away form the cherry tree yesterday morning at 6 am. I was up that early as I'd forgotten to put the bins out and the binmen were due - on a Bank Holiday, bless them.

However, this morning, it was a different problem. My daughter, aged 21, has two rabbits that live in a hutch behind the house. I heard a terrible banging and crashing before 7, couldn't get back to sleep so went to investigate. Patsy (the other one is Eddie, guess what my daughter's favourite tv programme is?!) had chewed a hole in the side of the hutch and was minutes away from escape.

Although they are both female, spring is in the air, they are frisky and, ahem, are at it like rabbits. Now I have another job, repairing the hole. As if I didn't have enough to do. And I haven't even started on the new garen yet.

Chris; we've had a little visitor starting a couple of days ago, he is a bit camera shy, but managed to get a photo - bit grainy as I have zoomed right in:

I reckon it's a Song Thrush, and it's a real delight to hear him on our roof - I wonder if he's the same one?

If he is, you're welcome to him John! Although, I doubt it as I think there are at least two in our locality. Ours seems to have been quite distant today and I'm hoping he'll stay that way.

Meanwhile, the rabbit hutch is repaired and reinforced. That should keep them in for a while. Just wish I could do something about their friskyness. No suggestions please!

I think he's getting as fed up as I am. He's not sitting in the cherry tree on the front lawn any more, but in a tree, 20 metres or so away. He's cranked up the volume to conpensate but the tunes are suffering. There's less melody and more raucous chirruping. The repeated lorry reversing "beep-beep-beep" is more frequent. Roll on July!

We have Dunnocks (little brown jobbies, indistinguishable from sparrows most of the time) visiting our garden. They are capable of making quite nice noises, but since we're in an urban area which is full of marauding cats, they tend to just scream eeeek! eeeek! eeeek! at each other all day long. Perhaps they'd be happier somewhere else.

      He's back!

I'm sure he's not due yet. Must be this unseasonably mild weather. Why isn't it cold???

I know suspended CDs might help, or wind chimes, but the tree he sits at the top of is about 30 feet high. Help! Any suggestions?

Sorry to sound unhelpful, Chris, but I think you should enjoy it and be glad that your wildlife isn't of the human yob variety. :heehee: I'd swap your bird for my juvenile delinquents any time.

I've got Ducks quacking all night here? You'd think they wouldn't want to draw attention to themselves with all the foxes around here:what:

Ho Ho! Zig. I've bought a couple of those plastic twirly spiral things from the pound shop and will shin up the tree and hang them from the branches. See if he likes that!!

The only other way to go is either ear plugs or a catapult. :heehee: Not that I'm saying you should harm the bird of course!
