 Hmmm.. Could be a weeds amanita, but don't recognise them if they are.. Maybe one of the Caryopteris family, but not at all sure... See what others say..

I have the same thing in a pot that had pansys in last year and violas this year, I didn't know what it is so was going to leave it to see how it developed, I definitely did not plant it though. Sorry I can't be of any help but am interested to see what other people say.

They don't look much like seedlings as they have thick strong shoots, is it possible that you top dressed a pot that had compost in it to plant your pansy not knowing / remembering there was some corm, bulb or other plant already in it ???
I did that with some muscari bulbs and have a perrenial gypsophilia coming up that I had forgotten about.

My example of this is now flowering, I've attached a picture. Like you amanita I was sure this had something to do with the pansies that were there previously but now that it has matured I'm not sure. Maybe this was something I planted but I've forgotten about. Does anyone have any ideas?

thanks SS you actually answered it a couple of weeks back when I uploaded a foto of the more mature plant just prior to it flushing. I recon that the seed must have come in from a garden centre.....which is good really cos they'll make a super border plant for next year.
I shall collect the seed - they've almost gone over now (R they perennial though ??)
