Hi guys. I have recently put a water lilly in a very large container of water, which sits next to my south facing wall. The lilly has grown no end and seems very happy. 4 or 5 leaves on the top of the water already. The lilly came with a basket, special compost, gravel etc but I'm just wondering - should I be puting anything into the water,at intervals, to help feed the lilly?

    Hi
They should be fine this year, could you plant in a biger basket next year ??

To be honest you dont have to keep in the basket if you are growing in a very big container , are you just growing buy them selves ?, as I crowmatela big yellow one and Gonniere big double white I grow in those tidy buckets made from rubber and I have planted them in the bottom without using the basket , but I have no fish and nothing else growing in them

I've always planted in a cut down pot, but have found they really get going once they escape the pot after a year or two.
If the pond is very sterile with no bottom mud or fish I think you might need to add some of that lilly fertilizer, the kind you add to the planting pot, but I've never done that as the fish provide the nutrient.

Mine is in one of those 'tidy bucket' things too. Yes, it's just sat there on its own, no other plant or fish. Seems very happy though.

So Iam not the only daft one to have that idea , but works for me as well , they were frozen solid for weeks over the winter but they both survived, plus also next door cats like to drink out of it , I thought I was going to have a pond ? so thats why I bought the water lily so they would be ready to go in , but 3 years later still in the same place !!!.
But because the water warms up quicker they flower realy well
