If I were a British Subject, I would certainly prefer William for King.
    He is a GREAT.
He is LIUTENANT OF THE ROYAL NAVY as well as CAPTAIN OF THE BLUES AND ROYALS as well as FLIGHT LIUTENANT OF THE ROYAL AIR FORCE.

The Queen cannot 'retire'. As an Anointed Monarch, by the Church of England (of which she is also the head) she swore an oath to remain in the position until death. She also cannot bypass Charles and 'hand' the throne to William - it doesn't work that way, unless Charles declines to be King.

The position of Prince of Wales is an odd one - no real purpose or 'job' but simply to sit and wait to be King. No wonder Charles makes mistakes sometimes - after waiting for 50 odd years to take on a job, most of us would. The last time a Prince of Wales had to wait this long, it was the future Edward VII - who was basically a good time boy, happy to party and sleep with as many different women as he could!

As for Camilla, yes, she is no oil painting, but she has conducted herself with a dignity and reserve that Diana should have, rather than 'selling' herself to every newspaper she could!

In that case - on my opinion - It would be desirable if Charles declined to be King to let his son William be.
A young King as a young King was Charlemagne when became King of Franks at the age of 29 (or less if I am not wrong).

I would prefer William and Kate to be next King and Queen.
The present Queen could live another 10 years so that would be ideal for the young couple to settle into the role.
If Charles was to become King I would have to say I would be very disappointed.
As far as Camilla becoming Queen I would be devastated.
I even hate the idea of her signing as a witness at Williams marriage , to me it is just so wrong.
Diana was treated very badly and she along with Charles was part of it.
I can't forget ,along with many others what happened.
If she did ever become Queen I feel the royal family would be even less popular than they are now.
With William and Kate taking on the role I feel the popularity would increase.

I don't think William's age is a disadvantage, after all Elizabeth was young when the responsibility of being a Queen was thrust upon her, and he would possibly make a good King but only time will tell. Kate seems to handle herself in public, but can she handle the pettiness. rules and prejudices of the Establishment, the malicious media, the long hours and lack of any privacy???

Charles is much maligned. Despite all the silly. petty, speculation and comments, by the media, politicians and public on his abilities, his age and having to wait to become King, he has, in my opinion, kept a stoic silence and has refused to be baited into commenting in any way. That,to me, speaks of strength of character. What has he done wrong while waiting to become King?? He's offended the Establishment, Politicians, and Media, by speaking out on matters that he thought he should. Since he went against the interested parties agenda he was branded a fool, a person using his position to speak against things which he had no right to! We're granted the right of free speech, but Royalty isn't??? He's a business man who run's his estates at profit, yet he runs his farms hand in hand with nature. He speaks out on the protection of the environment and the protection of the countryside. He attacked the Government's move to sell of the forests. He's a nature lover and understands the countryside perfectly. He's head of many Charities, not just a figure head but takes active interest in them. Does that sound like a fool, a man not fit to become a King??? People are too easily led by the nose by the media, instead of actually taking a long cool look at a person and deciding what they are really like.

I'm happy with the Queen I've got now. HM has done an incredible job, running the whole show like a business. She has had to ride the rough seas of members of her family getting into scandals, splitting up and the inherent attention of the Dog Press. She's a tough lady, and, despite all his foibles, has had a good man in Phillip.

I tend to think the Queen and Charlie are both living in the past.
They think they are above all rules and laws and do as they please, its how it was in in the old days, and nothing has changed as far as they are concerned.
They actually stand for all I despise regarding the environment and nature, even though they take on being head of certain environmental societies etc.
They still prefer to blast nature with a 12 bore at every opportunity and as for Charlie running his estates, who said they were his estates, the bloke has had it handed on a plate to him.

He comes over as a complete soppy royal prat.

Thank god they decided they needed some new blood in the Royal line and dragged in Diana, but I'm not sure either of the off spring have any connection with Charlie.

Aaron, the Queen can abdicate, thus retire. Also, she can name her successor. I believe.:dbgrtmb:

pete, I agree with you about Charles, all he's interested in is making cash out of his estates, with all that money and time on his hands he really should set an example on how to farm/grow organically, I know he says he does that, but it's just a label he adds to his products, actions speak louder than words.
