I live in North Kent, UK. Is there a list of plants suitable for different zones?
Id like to plant a Laburnum I have seen a few around my area so should be ok but wanted to double check and also find out for future purchases :)

    many thanks

You`ll have no problem growing a Laburnum in north Kent. May I suggest you even try growing an evergreen Laburnum, Piptanthus nepalensis.:dbgrtmb::dbgrtmb:

Dont worry about what zone you are in.

Zones dont work for the UK, its a US method where the climate varies wildly.
Most of the UK fits into about 2 zones.

Laburnum grows well from Scotland to Cornwall

Sorry pinkfinger, just joking, but zones dont really work for us.:WINK1:

If its outside in the local garden centre, then its probably ok outside all year.
Any problems ask the staff, but I know they can be a bit misleading sometimes.

There is in fact a zone map for europe which can sometimes be useful
          Europe Hardiness Zone Map
However, the best information can be gleaned from your local area ... if it is seen growing happily in your area then it will do the same for you :)

Hi Pete thanks for that. Unfortunately being not too far from the coast I get quite a bit of wind and I have lost a few plants due to it. For example I'd love to have a fuchsia, and did have a hardy one but it died :(
Do you have any recommendation for a particular hardy/wind reistant one?
            many thanks
            :)

Sorry I'm not a fuchsia grower really, have dabbled a bit, but nothing serious.

Others on here might be able to help.:thumb:

I find it surprising you've had trouble finding one that is hardy, on the coast you should be a bit milder, although I do know the NE wind in particular can be a killer in north Kent.

How close to the coast are you, could it have been a salt laden wind that killed it off.
