I doubt they can read a crystal ball any better than anyone else.

Depends where in the country you are (please fill in your location) but for all bar the far South West and coastal areas, frost up to beginning of June is possible, although rare after middle of May, and in many years there is none at all in May.

What is unusual is to have had none in April, or much of March, as we have done this year.

I have not even sown Runner Beans or anything tender like that as yet.

I always err on side of caution as I know frosts up to end of may here (south Hampshire) are not unusual, but this year I've had to risk it. I have a day to myself today and was going to plant out my extremely large and flowering cosmos, but forecast says 3 degrees tonight here. Not sure if that is frosty or not for tenders!

I have Runner Beans, Toms, French Beans, Sweecorn, Pumpkins, etc waiting to go in but I too saw the forecast for South Derbyshire tonight; they are saying it may drop to 0 degrees, so frost possible. They're out on the patio at the mo enjoying the sun and thankfully no wind after the last few days, but they'll be popped back under cover tonight and the fleece will be coming out for a few other bits; potatoes being one, that are nearly ready too..

I think it probably is. I think the rule is that the weather forecast gives minimum air temperature, and ground temperature may well be 4C lower - so prepare for frost when the forecast is 4C or below.

Temperatures forecast to "soar" :D though, from Friday night, and for the following 7 days, we are looking at 7C - 10C minimum here

We have already had frost over the last few nights, so nothing new there.
Last frost here? July 7th. We never put anything out until Derby Day and fleece things even then. Even so we still have to grow anything slightly tender in a polytunnel if we want crops. Where are we? North East Midlands. Oh and the earliest frost was 1st of September.

Yes, just got back from covering all my spuds with old net curtains and sheets bought from jumble sales.

The more tender seedlings in my unheated polytunnel have been placed in tomato boxes (like blue plastic mushroom boxes but green and much taller), stacked up and covered with blankets. The temp went down to 7.5 deg C in there last night.

Having ummmed and ahhhhed, have just been out with a torch to cover my cucumbers in the greenhouse. Must remember to take them off in the morning though, don't want them fried! :)

Well, I've covered some newly emerged carrot, lettuce and pak choi seedlings with fleece and earthed up the spuds a bit more, but I have no more fleece to cover them. Everything else is inside for tonight; currently though (10.35pm) it is 8.5 degrees here, so fingers crossed..

I've just been out and covered my runner beans, They got so big I couldn't keep them in the greenhouse any longer. They'll have to take their chance, but I have some more soaking ready to plant in the ground if the others fail.

Well, a local weather station on wunderground is showing it's 4.7 degrees here at the moment ( nearly 7am) so I think we've escaped here.
