I was gargling for some of this " keep off " stuff, mentioned in another thread and it seemed to be available from Focus DIY, except its not as they have just gone into administration.

Yes, I heard it on the radio while driving back this afternoon, Grumpy. It's sad for the people who are going to lose their jobs over it. There may be a buyer for the business but some jobs are bound to go.:cry3:
Focus have been badly run for years by a management that never seemed to have know what the customer wanted. I went there for a circular, toothed hole cutter and their price was £22 which was absolutely ridiculous. I went to B & Q and for the identical thing it was £4.50, how many other people have done the price comparison test and decided not to go back to Focus again? It's better to sell lot of goods for a lower profit than just one a higher profit surely?.
Speaking of profit, I always thought Wilco's was cheap but just recently their Creosote substitute [5 litres] has jumped from £6.25 to £10.60 in two years. I was in Shrewsbury today and went into a Supermarket called "Charlies" and there on the shelves was Creosote substitute [5 litres] for £6.40p, my opinion of Wilco's has changed.

It'll be a shame if they go down, because Focus are the only DIY store that do a 10% discount card for the over 55's.

Talking of discounts and cheap prices:_

I remember a very old cartoon produced by Punch which depicted an American hobo with his 'bindle stick' over his shoulder. Underneath were the words "I used to give the biggest discounts in town".

Don't B&Q do something similar every Wed only?! I'm sure my parents have a discount card or some sort.

The Focus by us is useless and never seems to have the item you are looking for and the plants are always dry and dead, which is annoying as B&Q is a half hour round trip away on a good day.

The one Focus do for is for over 55's and for every day of the week. B&Q's is for over 60's and can only be used on Wednesdays.

P.S. They're no longer taking orders on-line. Wonder when the instore closing down sale will be? There's a Focus store just along the road from Buckingham Garden Centre (got a 10% discount card for there) so will keep an eye open.

I'm not entirely shocked by this news. Badly informed staff and stores that never have DIY stuff in which is odd for a DIY store...

To be honest I thought they'd already gone down the pan. Mind you, I'm not surprised since I recall, in the dim and distant past, that they opened a new store in the town where my parents lived - brilliant forethought coupled with outstanding business acumen, resulted in a DIY store being situated on the second floor of a shopping centre just about as far away from lifts, stairs and car park as it was possible to get.

Yeah - well done guys :pathead:

As has been said it's a shame if there's any job losses, but the staff at our local store know next to nothing about anything, garden stuff DIY, you name it.....not their fault I suppose; someone at the top should be training the staff.

Oh and aren't Focus the people selling that compost that kills seedlings off.....!!!???
