I now have an allotment

Its not too far from home, just down in the village so 2 mins in the car which I am having to use while I have only one set of tools between house and Allotment.

Tidy up has started today, have just returned for lunch and to give the wildlife chance to relocate themselves from the carpets I've just pulled up...the place is full of toads so I guess a pond will have to go in somewhere for them.

I wont be having chickens..just fruit and veg and a hopefully a nice place to spend the day in with the added bonus of a community interested in gardening.

Sounds good to me. The allottment I got with a friend at the end of summer is only about a 10 minute walk away, with my daughters school about halfway.

Another friend has a neighbouring plot, and all the polts were brand new last year.

We did a some fo the preparation at the end of summer - turning the soil over and digging in a load of manure. So the real work starts now.

I look forward to seeing how you get on over the coming months. Please keep the pictures coming.

 

I've started work now and so far this week have dug 3, fourteen by four beds, not ready to plant just turned over and weeds/nettles pulled. But today another plot holder gave me a Rhubarb crown...so our first plant is in the ground!! Now I'm all fired up and excited!!

My goodness Steve, thats a ton of work, but so worth the effort....keep the pics coming.

 

Morning Steve - strewth, you've got "one of those" plots :lollol:and let's face it - there are a few like that on your site.

Knowing you, however, it won't be long before it is spick & span, and productive. Let's just hope that the new village council are able to get an Allotment Officer in post and something can happen to either secure this one for you or another plot so that all your hard work doesn't get taken away before you have the benefit of the improvements you make,

Hi Goldberry and thanks, yes..lets hope new parish council starts well and continues in that vein (I'm sure it will).

I'm hoping my work is not wasted, I'm already thinking of a polytunnel and have been looking at various size options etc etc.

Congrats on getting your allotment, what a challenge!
I got one last year and it's full of couch grass, evil stuff, but we did little and often so as it didn't become too overwhelming.
There's still loads to do but each time we go over a little bit more improves.
I'll will try and load some photos.

I even have a few plants in the ground, another plot holder gave me a rhubarb crown and 2 types of mint..All have just been "heeled" in for now.
