Hi everyone, I sowed a tray of peas about a month ago & I'm just wondering when I could plant them directly into the soil outside? It's my first year trying to grow peas so any other advice is welcome.

I planted out ones I'd started in a length of plastic guttering, yesterday. I also made my first direct sowing. At present I've got both covered with glass cloches.

Thanks for the replies, so is it not wise to plant out without protection yet?

Mine are quite tall, maybe 20 centimetres by now here they were about two weeks ago before they went out into the greenhouse

    Hello Freedomspark.
I planted my peas directly into the soil this week.
I'm expecting them to do well.
I'm not sure what you mean about the peas you planted in a tray a month ago. Is that the ones you planted out ????
I also planted some peas in oct in the cold frame.
They've been in there over that horrible winter we've had.
They're about a foot high and looking great. It's not what I intended. I meant to eat the pea shoots when they were about 4" high but it was too cold to go and get them :(
    Peas are tough stuff :thmb:

Yes, the peas I planted about 3 weeks - a month ago are still in their tray & I thought it may be too soon to transfer them into the soil. This evening I sowed another large tray full to use for shoots :D

Mine are out, no protection but I do live and garden in the metropolis and only 1 slight frost with no ill effects.

Yes, I have more plants in the greenhouse so I'm not completely mad!
