Outside my kids school this afternoon.

A 5 year old fell off the kerb & was run over by one of the school buses.

BBC News - Boy hit by bus in Langport seriously injured

He wasn't breathing for 5 minutes & suffered terrible injuries. He was airlifted to hospital.

The bus driver and all of the kids on board were in tears. My kids and their mates are all very subdued tonight. The main topic going around their text messages and facebook is about the little boy & daughter says its brought the comunity together in their concerns.

I'm not religious but I can't help thinking about a prayer for the poor lad tonight.

Bad crack that Ziggy, It's bad enough when an adult has a accident but when there is a five year old is involved makes it a whole lot worse, God knows what his family are going through, Fingers crossed the kid is allright.

Oh no! My little boy is 5 and we walk to school every day past so much traffic. The poor boy and the bus driver.

I hope that boy gets through.

My Uncle was a bus driver to whom this happened many years ago. He never recovered properly and died in his mid-forties from stress related problems.
I also taught a child who had been involved in an accident like this and it took me almost the whole year to build up her self-confidence enough for her to walk to school on her own.
Sympathy goes out to those involved.

That's really awful. I really hope the lad makes a full and speedy recovery, and the poor bus driver too. I can't even big to imagine, and don't even want to imagine what the parents must be going through.

Oh dear Ziggy that is dreadful.. I hope he makes it through.. A similar thing happened to my friends son many years ago now, but he was 12 & was larking around on his way to school.. Sadly he didn't make it through.. Children & roads are not a good mix.. I hope there will be some better news today, the poor parents must be beside themselves.. It may be late but I have said a prayer for him Zig..

The Little Boy has just been declared clinically dead i'm sorry to report.

My little girl said their school bus went past the accident site & everyone was upset by the outline police had drawn around where his body had been.

You would think, being directly outside the school and knowing how upset all the kids are, they would have thought to remove that before it upset anyone even more.

Oh my God! I don't want to imagine how dreadful the parents feel: their little one just on the verge of becoming a big boy, going to school etc and taken away like that!
Drivers, especially on elevated vehicles like buses and 4x4 should travel at walking speed near schools! Children are so prone to accident near schools because they call each other across the street, they trip, they run after their friends etc etc
