How about a spider plant. Old fashioned yes, but pretty much look after themselves.

I have a very sunny windowsill in my kitchen and I grow a variety of plants there. I have 2 easter cactus, one pink and one red, there's an orange scented leaf geranium which is nice when you touch the leaves, and I have chives and dill which are small at the moment so I wont be using the for a while yet. None are too fussy and seem to like being in the kitchen. There are loads of things you can keep in there!

I knocked a small bit off the Swiss cheese /monstera plant in my living room and stuck it in some compost in a corner of the kitchen near a window. Two years later its almost 2 metres tall.
