It's been really windy here past few days and my potatoes have taken a bit of a battering from gale force winds.

Some of the leaves have black edges. While others have kind of wilted. Never noticed it before the wind.

I'm not sure if this is the dreaded blight or just wind damage. Should have taken a pic but removed leaves and stalks that looked damaged and binned for burning straight away. Most of the leaves look fine but worried if it's blight it will spread.

How do you tell if it's blight or wind damage?

I would say it`s a bit early for blight, much more likely to be wind scorch.:dbgrtmb::cry3:

Almost certainly too early for blight.

ok thats a relief but its getting worse. Ive attached a photo of one not so bad leaf but since then there have been more.

Can guarantee its not sunburn :( But wind damage is highly likely as its still blowing a gale

My partner said we should remove the leaves that were damaged. Hope we havent done too much damage to the plant by doing so. Loads of stems were already snapped and hanging on by a thread.

Is this the end of my tatties? They're first earlies apparently.

    Hello Moopants.
From what I can see from your pic there is nothing wrong with your potatoes.
Yes, it has been blowing a gale and some nights have been quite cold and the leaves on many things are not at their best.
You are not going to eat those tattie leaves - I hope! - so no need to worry about them.
I'll wager your tatties are fine.

Just leave the leaves alone Moopants, your plants will recover, there's no need to pick them off.
