    Can anyone help?
When i first moved into my house 23 years ago i had a plant that flowered every year and spread along the side border to my front door, after many years i dug it up and planted spring bulbs instead....daff's/crocus/snowdrops/bluebells/lily of the valley and hyacinths.
Now i would like this plant again for another area but i can't seem to find the right one i have bought a couple of Osteospermum plants over the years, but it doesn't spread and dies off at winter time, does anyone know the right plant that i need?

I think you are probably looking for something like this.
    Osteospermum jucundum - Shoot

The Oseospermum plants sold in spring for summer bedding are not hardy, as you have found, but this is.
There is also a white flowered one that I know of, but not sure on the name of that.

I've just looked and that link says its tender.

I personally dont think it is, I have pink and white forms that have never been killed by frost.

Thankyou for your help Pete i've noted the name down, says its one which clumps and spreads to a metre so sounds like the type i want, the one i had before was white but pink would be okay too.

I have an Aubritia that has been sat in my front garden for the last 20 years. Its a deep Blue colour and has flowers from late April until July or later, even up here in the cold north. It's kept at about 3' across.
It overlaps the edge of the footpath and the Steppy stones in tha garden and has to be hacked back with a spade to tidy it up each year, otherwise it would keep spreading.
It should do a job for you

That osteospermum roots very easily from cuttings so if you have a friend with the same plant, you could save yourself a bob or two by begging some pieces.

I had a clump of Aubritia at the top corner of my front lawn along the path which came up each year in flowers and spread over the lawn, i actually dug it up last week and i'm planning on planting two pumpkins in the soil area thats there now being as i got no room in the garden to put them anywhere else, 1st time i've grown them so hope they will be okay.

Madahhlia, you must of read my mind today, while out and about at work i had been spotting a few gardens with the exact plant i use to have, was thinking if one of my customers have some in there garden i might just ask for a cutting. :D
