Old flame gun

    Mention of Sheen flame guns burning off weeds over germinating carrot seeds got me hunting for the flame gun I was given several years ago:

    It may be 'rather old', but I was shown how it worked, although I'm not entirely sure now. There's a metal coil in the front end bit and I think that's supposed to be heated up before the paraffin in the tube behind is pumped up and the valve between the two chambers opened.

    Probably pre-H&S and might be more of a museum piece than something somebody's got instructions for, but I'd like to get it going again.

    My father in law has an old one, I can't remember how it starts though.

    I have a similar one. They should have an asbestos(don't panic) wick in the burner, pump up the tank then open the valve a little until paraffin comes out, when the wick has soaked turn the valve off and light the wick. As the flame on the wick dies down, open the valve and you should get a bluish flame.
