Storm damage

We have had heavy storms this past 24 hours. The result has been catastrophic for the garden, and I see a lot of work ahead. Considering that the turf bridge over to the island collapsed last month and has still to be replaced, I can't see all of these problems being corrected this year.

Ah well ... maybe I will just throw a party and swig some fine wines

a wine swigging party sounds like fun - perhaps a few mated could come and help you with the garden as well!

Yes, the winds have been horrible ! I've been quite worried about what was going on the garden. As far as I can see the Lupins are flat on their faces but everything else looks OK. No structural damage to fences etc. But there are trees down all round about us with roads blocked etc.
I hope everyone else is OK.

Yes such a shame, the damage caused in our garden was nothing compared to that; I feel for anyone who has seen the full force of these winds.....

I find garden damage in high winds soul destroying :(

Over the years (well, decades!) there have been 4 or 5 occasions where we have had catastrophic damage to the garden, and I feel for your pain. Very unfortunate and unusual to get such strong winds with the trees in full leaf

After the "hurricane" of 15/16 October 1987 my Father found a mobile saw-mill that converted the fallen trees to "planks" where they lay, and we stacked the wood to season in an old barn, and had some furniture made several years later. And we managed to stand a fully mature Lime back upright after pollarding it where it lay on the ground - its still there, but nothing like as majestic as it was.

And on another occasion we took a brave decision to completely remodel part of the garden that was trashed by high winds, which (with the benefit of hindsight!) turned out to be an inspired change to the garden.

So I hope you will be able to find some opportunity in the calamity for some good to come out of the mayhem.

 

Pretty tough on you Sam, but no doubt you'll bounce back and have most of it repaired in a week or so.
When one looks around the world and sees what's happened and is happening elsewhere due to mother nature we get off relatively lightly here in the UK.

 

I have been able to remove the fallen tree and cut it up for firewood. I also dismantled the gate and have it stored in the garage awaiting a decision on how to best effect a repair. The fallen pergola is now wood ash having been burned on the bonfire.
Add to this two hours cutting grass, two hours cutting back an overgrown hedge, and one hour drinking a few Buds
My arms are killing me .......

 

Sounds like you've had a busy day Whis4ey. Glad to hear things are looking up after the damage.

You sure it's not lifting the Buds that have made your arms ache!
