Hi, I'm new to this forum. I live in the south east, on the coast, the soil is very chalky. Though I have been gardening for some years, I'm a trier, not an expert. I'm hoping to get some advice from the more knowledgable on the forum. By the way, my name is David. Lots of children (5), all reluctant gardeners. And my wife does most of the work in the garden. :dancy:

Hi David, welcome to Gardeners Corner, don't worry a lot of us aren't "experts" but we all have the gardening bug in some form or other. So your wife is Head Gardener and you're Assistant Gardener.:D:heehee::loll:

Hello David and welcome to the forum. I'm on chalk too - it does dry out very quickly and needs lots of compost all the time to get a half decent result. What sort of things do you grow?

Many thanks for your warm welcome. JWK asked what we grow. Runner beans, courgettes, strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, asparagus (unsuccessful), parsnips (very small), potatoes (unsuccessful in pots, successful in soil), carrots, some fruit trees, are trying mange tout this year. We like to experiment.
                  David

I'm trying asparagus for the first time this year David. Only about 3 of the plants seem to have grown, so I'm thinking mine have failed too.

                    It's good to experiment
