Alien identification

    Help!

    I have just dug this out of my border.

    Its about 7" long and has a soft white inner with a jelly like substance in. Around this is a hard black shell.

    Any ideas to what it is?

    Any further clues, how big was this egg? Perhaps gardening isn't your thing if you're so easily frightened.

    Could be an immature Stinkhorn fungus, they spring from jelly like "eggs"

    Always thought that this particular fungus proves that God has a sense of humour:heehee:

      thanks for the info. i've now attached some photo's and it does look like the stinkhorn.

      it looks really horrible, do I need to do anything about it?

      Don't smell it when its fully open and keep the kids away from it to avoid embarrasing questions:heehee:

      kids away? With respect to its Phallic appearance?

      just put it in a zip lock bag in the bin to stop it spreading!

      Yep, won't hurt em, think i've read of people eating the unopened eggs, wouldn't fancy it myself though:eeew:

      better still let it grow and eat the mushroom :yummy: they are actually a delicacy :D
