I have a large silver birch in the garden thats got a little too tall, its about 50-60ft.

There is a natural point about half way where the main leader splits into two.

Ive been told its both possible and not possible to reduce height, im looking to reduce by about 50%.

Is this likely to kill the tree?

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Hi EngineerJim

    Short answer: Yes

Long answer: Yes, but probably over a period of years with possible additional complications arising in the meantime.

If you want to reduce your birch tree by that much then my advice (and you needn't take it of course), is the same advice I give to any customer regarding birch trees: Remove and replant!
