I bought a very small grape vine from a retailer about 3 months ago. I was told 2 replant it right away. I have not got around to it yet because I need to put up some fencing for when it grows so it can climb. Anyway last week when we had a lot of bad weather and wind, the main branch got snapped off. This gave me the opportunity to put it into my mini 4 tier green house as it would now fit.

So for the last two days we have had really nice hot weather, yesterday I checked it and it was fine. But today I looked and the two remaining branches have drooped down and look to be very flimsy almost at breaking point. I quickly tied some string around the main stem/bark and wrapped it around the branches 2 hold them up. I am not sure if the problem is from a human error, or the fact that it seemed 2 covered in wax and the heat has melted it making the branches fall? What do you think?

    Thank you.

Sounds like it was grafted perhaps?

    Have you got a picture?

Grapevines don't need to be in a greenhouse. In a plastic house it is maybe frying. Mine (Black Hambourg) grows outside against a south facing wall and I get lovely grapes from it. I would plant that vine outside asap. Give it a good, sheltered position, a good well fed hole, something to climb on and let it get on with it.

Thanks I think your right, it is frying like you say; it was so hot in there I could not believe it. Do you think the branches will survive, what should I do about that? as they are the only 2 :(. Mine is a chardonnay, I would have planted right away but I am having trouble with space. I do have a project in mind to build a wooden container with trailing it can climb. I know this would not be perfect for the plant, but building size would not matter as long as I can transport it in a car once created, what size would you recommend?
