    Hi
I have a garden around my decking which is placed up high, which is ideal as I'm in a wheelchair.
I do have a problem with the trees and the roots, they make one end extremely hard to even get a fork in and the opposite end is so sandy it makes planting difficult.

I love pretty gardens, with flowers out round the year, and I see my neighbours beautiful flowers and wonder how they get such lovely gardens, and I would love to know more and make my garden a pretty place to sit in.

I have decking round most and we have a lawn for our son to play on.

I would love some helpful tips on how I could make my garden easily manageable and if anyone can recommend some plants.

    Any ideas, greatly received.

For a start, I would put some aubretia at the front of the wall, this will grow down the wall (use a few different varieties) - mine is still in flower and the bees love it. It is very easy to look after and doesn't mind dry conditions. :)

      Hi Becka
On Jersey the Ice Plant (Lampranthus) is everywhere and provides good colour all summer. Presumably with the milder climate it can be left out.
Azalias (different ones flower at different times), Alstromaeria (perennial) and non-stop Begonias should give colour from April through to September and should tolerate the shade.
Pansies give winter colour and keep coming back. They also self seed.

Over to the experts for more.

Thank you so much for your advice, I'm going to be buying your recommendations and give it a go. It'll be lovely to have a colourful garden.

        Much appreciated

flowery things we have (and i am a rubbish gardener) are aubretia, violas (I love them and I just got B&Q value ones this year and htey have really spread to provide loads of colour) and I threw a load of wild flower seeds in one patch and have some beautiful flowers coming up. Poppies and phlox especially. we also have fuschias, a bottle brush and I like heucheras because the leaves provide so many colours all year round. erm also have heathers, lots of lavender and some alpine plants and thyme (I like the leaves and hte smell). we seem to have a lot of campanula (think thats the name) which just grows everywhere round here (bournemouth) and looks really pretty

        hello jersey becca

it looks quite shady there, does it get much full sun?

I think a few planters with compost might be worth considering. You can have them at a height to suit and you could then plant up with all sorts of bedding - summer and winter.

        just a thought!

ps you decking lighting looks nice!

thank you again, it does get some light, but only during the afternoon. we are having the hedge cut, as it is going a bit mad. But it gives us privacy in the garden so we will be just cutting it back. I'm going to try out all the different advice you have all given me.
It's so nice to get the help.

Oh, I've attached a before and after of our decking. We had it done just after we moved in. I'm in a wheelchair and it makes things easier.
