I applied for three events, not the finals or any really popular events so I am a bit miffed to miss out completely :cry3:. None of my colleagues have got any either, some applied for quite a few. I've not met anyone who has managed to get any. Now I'm not a great sports fan, but thought it's something you get to see once in a lifetime.

Some of the competitors have been badly let down, like Bradley Wiggins, the cyclist who won 7 gold medals apparently could not get any tickets for his family. What a crazy system! Only us brits can turn a simple ticketing exercise into a fiasco.

No, but there is a reason for that.

We applied for three and have got one. Bitter disappointment as there were three things we particularly wanted to see, as a family - as you say "a once in a lifetime opportunity". We didn't apply for any blue-ribbon events, just some early heats, so (we thought) we would have a good chance of seeing the three sports we are interested in "at international level".

We have applied also. Waiting on the outcome of the lottery.

I applied for two events and got zilch. I suppose I could have tried going for more but I wasn't happy about giving my credit card details upfront for a great deal of money, even if it was unlikely that the whole amount would be debited. I think it's a total farce. We fancy ourselves as being 'fair' in the UK. But this, as with all lotteries, is totally unfair. I wonder how Londoners who have coughed up around £200 extra in community tax recently to pay for the Olympics feel about it all? Mind you, if you have megabucks to spend on an all-in luxury hotel and premium ticket deal, you can still get your seats. So that's OK.

I've decided not to bother with the second round mop-up. I'll watch it all on the box instead.

I have a few friends who have had money taken so they have got some tickets but don't know what yet. don't think they applied for huge amounts but were obviously just lucky

I didn't apply for any but should be working there, I worked at Sydney 2000 and have done about 20 other major international events for my sport so fingers crossed I will get to go to 2012 as well (even though all my friends competing have now retired)

thats such a shame you haven't got anything. I know it isn't for everyone and lots of people don't like sport. I only really like my own sport I must admit (and hate football with a passion!) but there is something so amazing about the atmosphere at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. I won't be taking my daughters up to any of it as htey are still only tiny but I will take them to see the torch relay when it comes to our town and I hope they will get some idea of the excitement of it all. I used to dream about being at an olympics and my dream came true in Sydney although obviously not competing but a big competition in your own country is even more special. Words can't describe the feeling of anticipation, excitement, nerves, people coming together, the friendliness of it all.

sorry just realised that isn't helping your disappointment - I got a bit carried away. do go and see the torch relay though or go up and round the olympic park or watch some sailing at Weymouth.

Marley, I applied for archery tickets too, thinking that as a minority sport there wouldn't be millions of people all wanting the same thing, but was unsuccessful. It can't be right that some people have secured loads of tickets (see story below) while others have none at all.

I saw that story - crazy and very unfair like you say. I can see the logic of what htey were trying to do to avoid a first come first served thing but equally what they have done wasn't going to work for most people as rich people could afford to request a ridiculous number of tickets and have therefore had a greater chance of getting htem.

I always thought archery was really popular in the UK and you are proving it. I find it funny that rhythmic gymnastics (ribbon, hoop, ball, clubs etc) sold out but artistic gymnastics (what you usually see as gymnastics) didn't (if what I have read is right).

World Cup > Olympics, no doubt about it.

Doubt I'll see a single match, or whatever it's called in Olympian terms, next year.

I won't be going unfortunately, that week I have to put my books into alphabetical order and wash my hair.
If I want to see a load of foreigners running and jumping I'll nip down Oxford Street and watch the pickpockets and muggers...:D

I read somewhere on the net last week that loads of tickets have been applied for from various people who are hoping to then sell them on the black market to people desporate to go and see the games but were unlucky to get any.

I wonder if people have just applied for just anything to do with the games on the off chance that they get any tickets even though they might not be interested in any particular sport, unlike Marley who loves the archery.

We didn't apply for any as knowing our luck Mr Kandy would have got a ticket but not me,or visa versa then it would have been a question of having to go down to London on our own to watch the event.

Like the Royal Wedding recently we shall watch a lot of it from the comfort of our homes, without having to be sat at the back of a stadium where we would struggle to see what was going on:D

yes there is that - the view from the top of the O2 Arena when we had the test event for gymnastics back in 2009 was somewhat er small! at least you get to see it all clearly on the tv. Mind I am amazed how many people who want to work there think they are going to get to watch it, usually we end up in rooms out the back working hard and see nothing of the competitions. I was lucky enough though to get to be the first to congratulate a couple of my friends on winning gold at commonwealths, sadly didn't go to athens so missed one of them winning gold there.

Yes it is disappointing not to get any tickets for my chosen sport, archery.. I got to the England Field Archery team in '95 & shot in Europe the States & it was a fantastic atmosphere. So to have have a one off chance in my life to go to the Olympics held here would have been fantastic, but as we have all found out it is not to be.. I shall be watching from home if they manage to show any on TV.. Plus of course there is an American archery web site I can watch all or most of the rounds on.. Not the same as being there though.... :cry3:
