I have two apple trees Malini Dulcessa and Redlove, which have been planted in pots and grown from the fruit stock.

They have both grown well even both had a little blossom until now. The Malini Dulcessa is starting to lose it's leaves and something is nibbling at the leaves although I cannot see anything. Some leaves have started to fall (although there is new growth as well). today I noticed some beige speckles on the trunk and branches.

The Redlove, also potted grew two very tiny apples which have now fallen. The leaves are fine but about beige spots are devloping on the trunk.

I am a complete novice can anyone help and offer any advice?

Good evening Jasmine and welcome to the site.:dbgrtmb: May I ask whereabouts you live and where you bought the trees from. These varieties are strange to me.:D

If you can post photos it would help.
Also - how old are the trees and when did you plant them and what size are the containers?
Like Dai I'm unfamiliar with the varieties. Could be the speckles are natural, the falling leaves may be due to under watering and the falling fruit due to the natural 'June drop' which you'd notice more in a very young tree.

Were they bought bare root or potted and when did you plant them?

I hope that's all it is Dave, I will take some pictures and upload tomorrow. If you would be kind enough to have a look for me, it would be much appreciated.

The pot size is about 42cms diameter, not sure of the height. They were bought bare root and planted in October.

    Hi All

Please find picture attached, for Redlove Era (Redlove). Any help would be appreciated.

After all that I could only upload one pic as the others are too large (need some help from my tech guy). The pic is the trunk of the Redlove but basically the markings on the trunk are the same on both. The leaves on the Redlove are fine. The MD leaves some have been eaten, some are falling, some are fine and some have reddish edging with copper spots.

    Any ideas?

Can't really tell much about the bark from the photo.
What you say about the leaves tends to make me think 'apple scab' - particularly if it's present in brown spots. I'd suggest you treat with a fungicidal spray. Others on here may come up with different ideas though and I'm by no means certain that my guess is right. But a fungicidal spray wouldn't do any harm.

I'd a bad dose of scab last year so have been treating with Westland Plant Rescue Fungus Control since growth started this year.
