    Hi All
we're of to the Newton Stewart area in a couple of weeks.
Anyone suggest a decent Garden Centre, or Open Gardens to keep OH & D-I-L quiet for a while.
A nice safe beach for the Grandson would also be appreciated.

    :wub2:Many thanks

    Geoff

    .

Hi, Try Logan Botanic Gardens, and Castle Kennedy.

There was another garden shown on Beechgrove gardens a few weeks ago, but my brain has gone dead and cannot rember it's name!

Perhaps some other poster knows it.

Ps take your wellies and mackintosh!

    cheers!

PPS only joking, have a good time and spend lots of money!

Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries - been there a few times, nice 'big house' and lovely gardens! Nice guided tour with some intresting history! Would take about an hour to drive from Newton Stewart - through the Galloway Forest. A really nice drive - not a busy road and some of the most beautiful countryside our country has to offer :) Oh and it's the darkest place in west Europe for Astronomy :yay:

Here's a link to the Castle

There's also Culzean Castle here in Ayrshire (again about 1hr drive) Again good day out but sits on the coast looking out towards Arran and Ailsa Craig!

Threave Caste & Gardens, Castle Douglas (was featured on the Beechgrove gardens recently)...
This part of Scotland enjoys warm coastal waters that seem more tropical than the usual freezing due to the Gulf Stream landing right here :D

The whole of the area your staying in is beautiful so you will be spoilt for choice.Sorry can't reccomend any beaches as we go mainly for walking but any beaches we have come across in Scotland are always a delight to walk along:D

Hope you have a very nice stay and that the weather is kind to you all:)

My family holiday every year at Carrick Bay. Rock-pooling, beach walks and sea swimming for the hardy. Gem rock museum at Creetown worth a visit but the Butterfly farm closed a long time ago even though it's in the brochures and the local tourist board don't know. Gatehouse of Fleet is a nice little town and drives through the hills are quiet and peaceful.
