You used to be able to get a systemic weedkiller in the form of a gel that you could paint on weeds. This was great for weeds growing in busy flowerbeds, where you couldn't spray the weedkiller in case you damaged other plants.

I don't think the gel is available any longer.

Does anyone have a method of adapting ordinary systemic weedkiller so it can be used in this way?

Make up wallpaper paste with the weed killer to a thick consistency, and paint on (DIY)

Thank you very much for that. I'm a little concerned that it looks a little bit unwieldy for tracking down leave that are densely entwined with other leaves that you don't want to damage....but thank you for responding.

I really tried, but was unable to track this down on line. I suspect this was the one I used to use, but that it is no longer in production.....

I'm concerned that this looks a little unwieldy for painting on leaves that are entwined with plants that you want to save. For example bindweed is exactly the sort of weed I would seek to eradicate by painting its leaves, and they go round and round other plants....

I bought mine two years ago in a local nursery, if that's any help. Did you try tracking down the company itself?

I have not been able to track down the company itself; only suppliers - but none of the ones I checked out are supplying Deep Root Weedkiller Gel.

I did find a posting from the Health and Safety Executive which said it was one of the products that had been withdrawn from sale (22 Nov 2007) because it contains ammonium sulphamate....
