Hello, I have just bought 2 icelandic poppies. I would like to know the basic care for these plants. They are healthy and have several buds/flowers on them already. I understand they grow to 30cm and spread to 30cm.
I have put them into containers at the front of our house. They have multi purpose compost in them and some chicken manure dug in as well.

If there is anything else I need to do for a good show and to keep them healthy please let me know.

    .

    Yup!!!!

Let them seed themselves, then rogue out any orange ones when the seedlings flower, and you will have lots of pastel shades.

    Very nice they are too!

    Cheers!

    Thank you for your advice.

Why rogue out the orange flowers?

    Hi!

Because that is the dominant colour and you will have few if any other colours, so be ruthless, as soon as you see orange pull the whole plant out!

Same as foxgloves where the lilacy colour is dominant i get rid of them and in my allotment have whites, creams, pinky and bi-colours and the bees love them.

    Cheers!

How do you let them seed them selves?

Hi, this year I have had a great show of poppies from these 2 plants. Plenty of reds/whites/oranges and what looks like a pale yellow. I have now noticed that there has been a halt in growth. I just wonder if they are now preparing themselves for winter.
Do I cut back the foilage?
Do I cut back old flower stems to the ground?
Of do I just leave them alone?
Is there is any winter feed for them?

    Thanks in advance.
