I recently planted a few apple & pear trees. Initially the apple trees bloomed and small fruits began to appear - then - disaster. I checked them this morning and all the stems which carried fruit have been neatly severed and no apples to be seen.
My first suspicion fell on the squirrel which has been around lately but the thing that mystifies me is that a lot of the leaves have been devoured or part devoured as well.
I live in a rural area and I suppose a marauding herbivore could be guilty but there's no sign of droppings.
I wonder if anyone can suggest a likely culprit.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Rabbits!

Either purchase some rabbit guards from you local garden centre, or make some with lengths of 'chicken wire' and a couple of sticks.

If it's deer, you have a much bigger problem.

Thanks very much for the replies.
gcc3663 - methinks your swift denial makes you suspect number one!!
Scrungee - definitely not rabbits. I actually live on a smallholding and I haven't seen a rabbit here in 25 years, they don't seem to thrive here. Yes deer is a possibility I suppose. There are a few around although I've never seen one on my property.
Think I'll have to invest in a motion sensitive camera.

      Could be the 'June drop'.

Interesting possibility, but what about the devoured leaves?
