Hi, i am trying to dig up a bush (lavendar it might be) but it is right in the corner next to the drive and wall. Normally i dig under around a root like this to get it up - but cant as i can only get to 1/2-3/4 of it. Its very well established.

Has anyone got any tips on how to get it up?

    Thanks

Not sure how you can get the roots out from under the drive/wall, but you could use some liquid root killer?

EDIT: Reading back, now I realize you want to keep the plant....

I'm sorry can't help with getting it out but your know if it's a lavender because it will stink to high heaven (which some people find appealing...)

Yelf, I think you will have to sacrifice some of the roots next to the wall and drive. You are taking a gamble moving an established shrub as it is, so you may as well go for broke.:dbgrtmb:

They'd kill the roots and stop them coming back. This stuff is used on tree stumps and I've used it on two in my from garden (two huge 15ft conifers) and they've never grown back.

We had the same problem with a quercus growing in a Roman wall we were trying to conserve.

Tried digging round and under it, no good, so we tied it to a landrover and drove off.

    That shifted it:parsnip:

No, just the Quercus, wasn't allowed to shift the wall on account of it being 2,000 years old and in a Roman City.

World heritage people get a bit touchy about things like that:DOH:

I presume so, because the roots would be rotted, but you'd probably be best off leaving it for a day or two after you've used it to make sure.

Yelf, root killers take months to work. As the shrub is sacrificial just dig it out, Dont worry about the roots, dig through them. If, as you believe, it`s a lavender, the roots wont regrow anyway.:dbgrtmb:
