Whilst visiting my father-in-law's house yesterday to check his post etc (he's on holiday), we noticed the garden next door had a large sign up - "Plants free to a good home, please look after us"; the house has been empty for a while, since the owner passed away, his son is now clearing the overgrown garden; his father liked buying plants but never put them in hence there were/are lots of plants that never got planted.

I was only too happy to give homes to a large hosta, established hellebore and two very healthy established ferns; all still in 3lt pots but healthy...

Well done Bil,glad that you managed to save some of them and how thoughtful of his son to offer the plants to people who will hopefully have many happy years of pleasure with them.:dbgrtmb:

what a good idea he had - otherwise his fathers chosen plants would have been wasted

What a nice story. Sounds like the guy had great taste when it came to choosing plants.
