Can anyone tell me the best time to plant veg here in west of Scotland. I moved up from England and the climate is so different. Still cold and windy with hard rain last night.
Last year planted seeds and they were washed away but don't want to leave too late

If you are sowing in the ground without any cover I'd wait three weeks or more as the ground is still rather cold.
If you can start seeds indoors you can start now with things like brassicas.
Over here on the east coast we are a bit colder than where you are but I don't usually start outdoor sowing until the end of April- early May.
At present I've got peas almost ready to go out (but they'll be under cloches to start with), broad beans just poked through indoors and chard, spinach, lettuce, onions coming on indoors ready for a flying start when things warm up.

If you invest in some fleece or cheap polythene tunnels you'll gain a couple of weeks.

There's a very good guide to optimum germination temperatures in this link. (At present the daytime soil temperature in my small polytunnel is varying between about 8C and about 14C. The garden temps will be much lower)

    Thanks
I have set some mixed brassicas inside and they are through. Trouble is am going to family for a week in England tommorow so will have to stand them in water and keep my fingers crossed. Anyway its good to know I have still got time when I come back. Will have a look at germination temperature link and buy some clotches.
