As many know, I am not a veggie gardener as it's too difficult here in the heat so usually settle for a few cherry tomato plants and strawberries, both of which can tolerate the heat.

I decided to try a few things this year ... basically all a failure ... sugar snap peas, spring onions, sweetcorn (probably would have done well if in the ground but I don't have the space). However, I am surprised and delighted that my French Beans planted in a pot outside my kitchen door on 4 May hae produced just six weeks after planting their first crop which I shall pick tonight.

As the seeds I bought were from Lidl/Aldi at 25c a pack, it was worth a try! :D

      Nice one Victoria:dbgrtmb:

Picking our first ones now, but they were brought on early in the hotbed.

Outdoor ones are only about 8" high.

Blimey that is quick Vicky, we should be eating ours by now but the last two weeks here have been wet and miserable so they are all looking sorry for themselves.

I was really surprised Zig and John, I am delighted. We have had some torrential rain during this period ... but we always have the sun following and this past week we have been hovering just below 30c with night temps of 18c. These plants only get the full sun for a few hours a day.

I didn't actually pick them tonight as I had peppercorn paté on bio-grain toasted muffins instead. :)

Lucky you Victoria. Although the broad beans in the next row are looking healthy with lots of flowers, the Frenchies are not doing well at all and I don't think we're going to get much of a crop. A bad batch of plants perhaps?
