Mr rose bush is only small , put down in late spring. It's growing but most of it is very pale green to yellow with dark green veins. The soil has some chalk in it but I suspect it also has a lot of lime in it being so close to the cottage. It was very sandy and stoney where I planted it.
Is there anything I can do?

I have a lot of roses here and it's an alkaline soil and very stoney - so very similar to yours .... my roses are fine so it must be what you're doing with/to them.

You always need to incorporate plenty of composted manure at planting time because they thrive on it.
The yellowing is clearly mineral deficiencies so i would apply a specific rose feed - go to a Garden Centre to see the whole range and decide after some reading, apply it and wait and see.

If you think you might not have been as good as you could have been at planting time i would excavate the area and add the composted manure liberally, everywhere near it, i think i'd also add that specific feed too.

Thanks Louise, I did put compost down when planting but not manure, some of the leaves are a normal colour, I shall get a photo up later today.

Here they are , it would seem only the top half of the plant is being effected.
