What has happened to them? A photo might help us advise.

It's a looooong time since I've grown courgettes, but from what I remember they always had dry lower leaves. JWK is tight tho, a photo might help

Yes, a photo would help Lisa. If the rest of the plant looks healthy the bottom leaves which are dying might just be the seed leaves which always die off once the plant has no further use for them.

Mine did that last year and the fruits were all fine, dandy and multiple. I think its just as Alice says and your plants just don't need those leaves any more:)

            Loving the pic John! :WINK1:

Sorry about lack of photo - more down to my shyness and incompetence at these things :o

anyhow, good news - courgettes seem to be doing okay according to fellow allotmenteer - he says the same as most of you said...bottom dry leaves are quite common with courgettes - so I took dead leaves off and carried on with what I was doing - I was concerned that i wasn't watering them enough but all seems to be going well according to plan.....

....although friend has warned that I will end up with " shedloads of courgettes" :yess: erm....anyone know any recipes for courgette chutney :help::heehee:

Thanks everyone for your support and cheers john!:heehee:

Glad it's worked out Lisa. It's difficult to grow perfect plants, especially vegetables. They can tolerate the loss of a few leaves.
